Fairpage vs Contentful
One website, or many channels

Fairpage is a Contentful alternative for one website, with visual editing and hosting built in. Stay on Contentful when one body of content feeds several sites and apps, in many languages, under a company’s rules. Move to Fairpage when it is one website: its pages, the CMS, hosting, forms and visitor counts come together for $99 a year, about $8 a month, edited on the page.

Stay on

Contentful

$300a month, Lite

  • Content feeds more than one site or app

One space serves websites, apps and screens through its APIs.

  • You publish in many languages

More than three locales, localized workflows and locale-based publishing, on Enterprise.

  • Your company needs SSO, custom roles and an SLA

Enterprise has them, with uptime of up to 99.99%.

  • Developers own the front end

They choose the framework, the host and how preview works.

Move to

Fairpage

$99a year, Plus

  • It is one website

Pages, collections, hosting and domain in one place, with nothing to wire together.

  • Editors should see what they change

Text and pictures are edited on the page itself, inside its design.

  • The bill should be one line

Plus is $99 a year for up to 100 people. Contentful Lite is $300 a month.

  • Your coding agent builds the site

It writes the pages and the collections’ schema in a folder, and pushes.

What changes when you move

Editors change the page, not a form

Contentful is a headless CMS: an editor fills in an entry’s fields and sees the page in a preview, once a developer has given the front end a draft preview, and the Live Preview SDK for live updates and click-to-edit.

On Fairpage the draft site is the visual editor, with nothing to set up. Click a listing’s text to change it, replace a photo, or select the listing and say what should change. A change the AI makes waits in a draft until it is published.

The schema lives with the site

Contentful’s content model is built as content types in its web app or by migration scripts run against its API, and the front end reads them through the API.

On Fairpage your coding agent writes the content model in _content/schema.yaml, a collection at a time, beside the pages that show it. Content builds the form from it, and a page reads the rows as content.listings.

Room to grow, with no bandwidth or API meter

Contentful Lite holds 10,000 records, entries and assets together, in 25 content types, for up to 20 people. Past 100 GB of bandwidth or a million API calls a month it bills by the gigabyte and the million, uncapped; a Lite Space for more is $850 a month. A site with 500,000 page views a month, its pictures served from Contentful, uses some 250 to 400 GB: about $23 to $45 a month past Lite’s 100 GB, or from $4,100 a year with Vercel Pro, before its charges past a million requests a month.

Plus holds 100,000 entries in as many collections as the site needs, for up to 100 people, and its pages are served as pages, about 500,000 views a month, so nothing is counted by the call or sold by the gigabyte.

Forms and visitor counts come with it

Contentful Lite has neither: a site on it adds a form service, and counts visits with its host’s analytics (Vercel’s is metered) or another service.

On Fairpage a form on any page keeps its entries, mails them to you and can send them on to Mailchimp, Zapier or a webhook. Visits are counted on the site itself, without cookies or a banner.

Moving from Contentful

Your Contentful site stays online until you move the domain.

  1. 1

    Export the space

The Contentful CLI writes its content types, entries and assets to one JSON file and a folder of files.

  2. 2

    Let your agent build it

It writes the collections in the schema and the pages that show them, then sends the entries with fairpage rows push.

  3. 3

    Point your domain

Add it in the site’s settings and set the records Fairpage shows. Then invite the editors.
