Live and draft
Which edits go live at once, which wait in a draft, and how Publish and Discard work.
- With no draft open (the top bar says Published), edits to text, pictures, page details and entries go live as soon as they are saved.
- Anything else starts a draft: moving, adding or deleting sections, styles, pages and menus, a change the AI makes, entries the assistant changes, and a push from the command line. Start a draft starts one by hand. While a draft is open, every edit by anyone waits in it, entries included, and the live site does not change.
- Publish lists what the draft changed and puts it all live. Discard throws the whole draft away and shows the live site again; edits made before it started stay. Any member may start, publish or discard a draft.
- Open the draft, in the menu beside Publish, shows the draft in a tab of its own as visitors will see it, its links included. Its address works for 8 hours in the browser that opened it; sent to someone else, it does not open.
- An entry's Status decides whether visitors see it: Draft keeps it off the live site, Published puts it there. A new entry starts as a draft.
- While a draft is open, the pill by an entry's title says where it stands: Published, Waits for Publish, Changed or Removed (the live site has the old version until Publish), Draft, or In the trash.
- Preview on an entry opens its page as the draft in the editor, or on the live site once it is there.
